Transformers: Nefarious #5

Soundwave teams with the Autobots to track down the Initiative, but Newell has taken over the organization with the power of the homemade All-Spark and is planning to wipe out all alien tech–including the Transformers. When Soundwave and the Autobot/NEST group arrive, the Initiative releases other Transformers in their collection, including “dead” Transformers from other stories. (Thankfully, I don’t see Jazz in there, as that would be a continuity error.) Unfortunately, his actions have put the cube into meltdown!
What they got right: I have to hand it to Furman. When he can focus on one story and left to his own devices, he actually can tell a decent story. He gives Galloway a human moment (don’t count on it lasting if he’s in the third movie), Newell’s plot makes something resembling sense, and the execution of his plans are, for the universe, believable.
What they got wrong: I can blame the art team for how terrible the robots look. They do a decent job with the designs and design aspect they’ve been given, but it’s proof that Bay and ILM have gone a bit too far in their concept, as there are occasionally parts where for example you can’t tell a robot’s arm from his leg.
Recommendation: The miniseries has been hit or miss depending on the issue, but this is one of the hits. Not sure I can support the series overall, but this was a fair issue.
