Before YouTube allowed anime fans to create “Anime Music Videos” professional singer Matthew Sweet had a video on MTV (back when it was a music video channel) using footage from the anime Urusei Yatsura (known in the US at the time as Lum, one of the main characters from the magna and anime) to create a video for his song, “I’ve Been Waiting”.

Since I need some extra time to prep for Sunday’s comic, here is that video.

As a follow-up (or was this the follow-up, I forget), Sweet made a second video (and as far as I know, the only other “AMV”), this time using footage from a different anime, Space Adventure Cobra.

I like the first song better. Sweet is a professed anime fan, and has a tattoo of Lum (according to Wikipedia), so he is officially the first AMV maker. Take that, YouTube! 😀
