Muppet Sherlock Holmes #1
BOOM Kids! (August 2010)
WRITER: Patrick Storck ARTIST/COLORIST: Amy Mebberson LETTERER: Jose Macasocol, Jr. ASSISTANT EDITOR: Jason Long EDITOR: Christopher Burns COVER: David Peterson DESIGNER: Erika Terriquez
Holmes (Gonzo) and Watson (Fozzie) are asked by LeStrade (Kermit) to investigate a sick woman (Wanda) who may be dealing with…foul play. The suspects: the woman’s sister (Janice), her fiance (Wayne), her adoptive stepfather (Rizzo) the butler (don’t recognize him), and the orchard snake. Using dumb luck deductive reasoning, the case is solved.
What they got right: Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo together again as a team for the first time since The Great Muppet Caper, only this time with Gonzo in the lead. All the characters are chosen well and the mystery works properly for the Muppet’s world. Plus the story is a lot of fun. Then there’s the artist. Amy Mebberson is the best Muppet artist being published and I’m glad she’s working this side of the street.
What they got wrong: I kind of want to see this become a regular series instead of a mini-series.
Recomme…oh, just buy the darn thing already!
I do have to offer one apology, though. I can’t choose one moment for Best Scene. The whole book is just that good.
