Like Marvel doesn't have enough of their own bad ideas.

The Spider-Logo change is an obvious joke for long-running BW readers. (I was going to add in a bit where the underarm webbing would be in one panel but not another, an homage to how some artists don’t draw it, but I wasn’t sure the joke would work.) If you haven’t seen it, click on the comic to go to the commentary page, or just look back to previous posts I’ve made concerning Spider-Man. (The Marvel Spotlight category is probably the best bet.) In the meantime, let’s see what else happened this week.

comics

  • The final Crossoverkill cast member has been announced, and sadly it wasn’t Lightbringer. (I would have liked to have seen Chris Rocco drawing the other heroes.) Instead we have Hoodoo from the comic Magellan. I’ll still be reading, mind you. The series starts this month.
  • Comic Critics has put up another comic I have to spotlight, featuring Alan Moore.
  • An interesting article called “Building a Hero: Working Toward a Career in Comics” has some good advice for people looking to get into comics.
  • Oh, and apparently, some guy name Bob Harras is now the EIC of DC. I hear that’s big news. Personally, I never followed Harras because I wasn’t paying a lot of attention in the 90’s, so the big news to me is that DC still USES an editor-in-chief with their current editorial design. Unless something’s changed in the system.

television/movies

  • This movie idea from the Wachowskis confuses me. What’s the point of making an anti-George Bush movie years after he’s left office? Or is this George W., who is still out of office?
  • A review of Waiting for Superman, which isn’t about the Man of Steel but looks at the problem with today’s educational system. Yes, this is important when it comes to the storytellers of tomorrow, but it’s also a personal concern I have.
  • Why didn’t someone tell me Rush Limbaugh was on an episode of The Family Guy? Of course, now I have to watch an episode of The Family Guy, so maybe I was better off not knowing.
  • The latest list of upcoming anime included Iron Man and a movie sequel to one of my favorite Gundam shows, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, that will dare to use aliens. Awesome!
  • Acting legend Tony Curtis has passed away, as has writer and series creator Stephen J. Cannell. This saddens me, as he produced some of my favorite shows, like The Greatest American Hero and The A-Team.

video games

  • There is a rumor that Project: Milo, one of the games shows to promote the Kinect back when it was still Project: Natal, has been canceled.
  • Is an updated Wiimote coming out?
  • Video games don’t just improve hand/eye coordination, but may also be reorganizing your brain. I wonder if I can integrate that into the Clutter Reports? 🙂

in other news

  • Internet reviewer the Shades is pushing to get Apollo Z. Hack inducted into That Guy With The Glasses.com. Like Vangelus, who was recently brought into “the fold”, Apollo appeared in a previous Saturday Night Showcase, but apparently he’s moved a lot of reviewers and review fans, which shows how big a genre this has become thanks to Doug Walker and James Rolfe. So if you agree with us, please add your support. Apparently, there’s also a push to nominate him for a  Mashable Awards.
  • The Clutter Reports: One of the cool things about the second blog is that I can post a media review (since it’s not just my toy collection that’s out of control) and someday use it as filler for this site, or vice versa, thanks to Scanning My Collection. This week I reviewed the Action Man: Space Wars DVD so you get a bonus media review this week. This is from the 90’s animated series by DIC, not the CG series Mainframe did in 2000.
  • This Week’s Cracked: 6 Spectacularly Bad Ideas From History’s Greatest Geniuses gets posted here this week because Thomas Edison created the first Proton Pack (take that, Ghostbusters) and Nicola Testla has become a sci-fi figure and possibly the god of the Steampunk fandom. But the other entries are equally “because we can” science fiction someone wanted to turn into actual science. Sometimes Dr. Insano and every other fictional mad scientist seem more believable, don’t they, kids?

Best Scene of This Week’s Reviews

Billy Batson & The Magic of Shazam! #20

On the odd chance you can't figure it out, that's Captain Marvel flying THROUGH Mr. Atom to punch Black Adam across the city. Now you know what awesome looks like.
