Mostly, I just wanted to draw Superman.

I know nobody clicks the comics to go to the behind the scenes stuff (that’s what my stats tell me, anyway) so I’ll tell you here that I’m not getting a lot of face practice in this style since everyone is wearing masks. Luckily, this joke popped into my head when I was putting this story arc together and next week is the big reveal. But there’s other news to get into.

I know that should include stuff out of New York Comic-Con, but I honestly haven’t had a chance to read the latest info. Every time I seem to be close to finding a work pattern, my hours change at the paying job. Also, the art’s been a bit more detailed for this arc, so that takes more work, and thus more time. I’m going to try and look into it next week, but here’s some things I HAVE found in the news.

comics

  • This should be an article by itself, but I’m done discussing my disgust with pricing. Apparently DC is dropping its prices, but at the cost of pages and in some cases co-features. Marvel decides to follow suit an hour later (interesting timing) or they could be just going lower on NEW titles. If you really need to read a rant, Ari Green has you covered and I expect Snell of Slay Monstrobot to say something about it next week, now that Marvel 2005 week is over.
  • Godzilla is coming back to comics thanks to IDW. With Transformers and Doctor Who, this means that my top three favorite fictions are covered. They love me, apparently.
  • Then again, they’ve also announced a zombie crossover with Transformers, G.I. Joe, Star Trek, and the Ghostbusters. That’s not a comic, that’s a fanfic. So apparently they’re testing my “sheep” status when it comes to Transformers.

television/movies

  • Speaking of Transformers, we have a movie title, Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon (thanks to fellow Transfan Zobovor for the information). We’re trying to figure out what the heck that means.
  • If you question when Christians complain about how they’re depicted by the mainstream media, look no further than this line (and please read the full article): “John told me we have to do this film now while things are bad,” Norton said. “We have to show that traditional establishments like religion and marriage that people have relied on for truth have failed them.”
  • And with Christians gone from the movies, who’s standing up against the vampires, even the ones that don’t sparkle? Apparently nobody. You’d think they’d at least call the Ghostbusters.
  • Dora the Explorer is suing Nickelodeon?
  • Doctor Who will be filming an actual episode in the US! In new season 3 all they did was some establishing shots of New York.
  • A myth about a Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman crossover episode is dispelled.
  • If you’ve caught a live-action comedy special featuring DC heroes on YouTube, you will soon have a better quality version on DVD! I dare them to put out the live-action Justice League pilot next.
  • The Hub launched today, and some shows have been included I didn’t know about, including Men In Black: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond and apparently one based on the Muslim superhero comic The 99 is on the way.

Sorry, no video game news this week. All the big focus is probably on the Supreme Court case involving video games and free speech.

in other news

  • Saturday Night Showcase topic Internet personality Vangelus began his new career at That Guy With The Glasses.com with a review of the Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime figure, which you shouldn’t watch with the lights out.
  • The Clutter Report: Not much on this front. If you haven’t read my review of The Adventures of Captain Marvel here, I put it up there to showcase that some clutter your drawn to keep. I don’t even question keeping my VHS copy when I have a DVD and I explain why in the article.
  • This Week’s Cracked: 5 Awesome Sci-Fi Inventions (That Would Actually Suck) only needs one page to tell you why flying cars, teleporters, holodecks, jetpacks, and replicators are best left on Star Trek.

Best Scene of This Week’s Reviews

Batman: The Brave & The Bold #21

Of course, Landry had two chances to win this week, but at least this shows how to end a series.

Tomorrow’s Comic is a trade collection of Robotech: Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles.
