The terraforming machine is active and remaking the world. Robert is killed by the device, and Lau’Tan sacrifices himself to restore the colony’s force field. The big sacrifice comes from Matthew, who sacrifices himself and takes the Advocate with him, saving everyone. This is tied into the origin of the Tef’Aree, and the Doctor gives Emily a new life before heading to Mars.

What they got right: This was a great send-off for the 10th Doctor. Unlike the usual season enders under Davies, the Doctor doesn’t save the day with his Doctorness. In fact, he doesn’t actually save the day, others do and at a price. It stands out for a series ender.

What they got wrong: I really have no complaints.

Recommendation: A good way to end the series, and Tennant’s final comic appearance (barring crossovers). In January the series comes back following the current Doctor and his companions. Tony Lee will still be on board, so I have high hopes for the series. The man knows his Doctor.

Talk about a bad hair day.
