Considering the history that Jim Henson’s Muppets have with Saturday Night Live, it may be a surprise that none of them have ever hosted the series. Sesame Workshop, formerly known as the Children’s Television Workshop and the folks behind Sesame Street, are looking to change that. To that end, they have started a viral marketing campaign to get one of the Sesame Street Muppets on the show, which I found out about thanks to Trusty Plinko Stick. Who did they choose? Just read the article title.

Here is the Facebook page (for those of you who, unlike me, are on Facebook) to get Cookie Monster on SNL. Personally, Cookie Monster, lovable as he is, wouldn’t have been my choice for the first Muppet to host SNL. Yes, I’ve already mentioned that Grover is my favorite of the Sesame Street gang, but I would actually go to the other group, the Muppet Show gang. And no, not Gonzo, my favorite there. My choice would be this guy.

Rolf the Dog got his start on The Jimmy Dean Show (nothing to do with sausages) and has a long career to go with. After Jim Henson’s passing it was some time, even more than Kermit, before a new Muppetter, Bill Barretta, would give the piano-playing dog new life. Personally, I think he’d be a great fit for SNL.

Until then, Cookie Monster will have to do.
