Young Justice #1
DC Comics/Kids (March 2011)
WRITER: Kevin Hopps & Greg Weisman ARTIST: Mike Norton COLORIST: Alex Sinclair LETTERER: Travis Lanham EDITORS: Michale McCalister & Scott Peterson
Taking place during the three days Batman took to set up the team, Kid Flash invites Superboy (who has nowhere else to go) to hang out with him. Although they’re supposed to keep out of the action, the action finds them when two superstrong brother & sister punks attack the mall.
What they got right: This is what a cartoon spin-off can do, fill in the blanks and tell some decent stories of their own. It helps that the writers happen to be working on the show.
What they got wrong: Because I need something here, while Norton tries to emulate the style of the show, his personal style still works its way into the art. Granted, it’s darn good art to the point that it actually becomes a minor complaint, and at least he’s trying more than some other artists working on toon spin-offs I could mention (Avengers: EMH‘s back-up stories for example.) They really do have a great artist.
Recommendation: Unlike the aforementioned Marvel offering, Young Justice seeks to emulate the show (and mostly succeeds) and tell a good story. You should get it.

Sometimes you can't predict what makes my "Best Scene", can you?
