Transformers: Foundation #2
IDW Publishing (March 2011)
WRITER: John Barber ARTIST: Andrew Griffith COLORIST: Priscilla Tramontano LETTERER: Chris Mowry ASSISTANT EDITOR: Carlos Guzman EDITOR: Andy Schmidt
As Optimus continues to head for Megatron’s base, he flashes back to Sentinel Prime telling him that he believes Optimus is descended from the Primes as Sentinel is. Optimus doesn’t believe it and would rather join the science class. Megatron, upset that Optimus was offered the top spot, begins to slowly turn into the Megatron we know his as (at least by the time of last year’s prequel). We also see how Megatron met Starscream in this continuity.
What they got right: I have to give Barber credit. Last issue I complained about Sentinel Prime (who does appear in the movie) naming Optimus the new Prime when that’s not how it worked in the previous Cybertron-based movie prequel. This issue he’s able to work the two stories together, making it so the artifact from the last prequel confirms what Sentinel tells him this prequel.
What they got wrong: The underground critter idea from Sector 7 is back. I have to wonder is this Barber’s deal or is this actually a factor in Dark of the Moon. What do you know, Barber? WHAT DO YOU KNOW? {ahem} Sorry, folks.
Recommendation: I’m a bit more comfortable with this issue than I was last issue. I still want to see how this ends and blends into the film, but I did find this issue interesting so I guess give it a look.

Kids, meet my favorite version of Shockwave ever!
