Young Justice #2
DC Comics (May 2011)
WRITERS: Art Baltazar & Franco ARTIST: Mike Norton COLORIST: Zac Atkinson LETTERER: Travis Lanham COVER: Mike Norton & Alex Sinclair ASSISTANT EDITOR: Michael McCalister EDITOR: Jim Chadwick
Captured by the Joker, Superboy and Snapper are rescued and joins forces with the Justice League. However, Superboy soon realizes who is really behind these illusions and puts a stop to it.
What they got right: I have maintained back in my reviews of Billy Batson that Baltazar, Franco, and Norton are a great team, and they prove it again in this title. This is what I’ve wanted from tie-in spin-off comics, great stories that fit into the cartoon being adapted without conflicting with potential events in the stories. That last part is hard to do, so we’ll have to see how they handle things in later stories but here they do a great job.
What they got wrong: Red Tornado’s explanation for the illusions. I’m not sure if psychobabble is the right term, but it seems like they went out of their way to explain everything they did. It feels a bit forced.
Recommendation: I’ve been enjoying the animated version thus far, and the comic continues that trend. Recommended for any fan of the show or just someone who wants a good superhero comic with all the nonsense of the current main titles.

Sometimes you can't choose just one scene.
Up Next: A “Yesterday’s Comic” on Saturday and Best Scene of the Week in Sunday’s Weekly Wrap-Up.
