I don’t know if there was ever an ad for this toy in the states. This is a British ad for the StarBird fighter. As a kid my cousin had one of these and I really wanted one. I never got one, and as an adult I missed out on a remake I saw at an Ocean State Job Lot once. I still would love to have one someday, size be danged. I’d find a place for it.
Since I’m dealing with both a case of writer’s block and an urge to draw that I’m going to put towards Ninja Ballerina (as it’s about time I did something on that project that I can show) I’m putting up a couple of videos by an even bigger fans. YouTube user “Buckaroohawk” has put up a couple of videos showing off his computer-generated animations of this awesome toy as if it were a real spaceship, and sadly nobody at NASA ever thought to make one.
The first is an external shot of the ship taking off. Sadly, he used actual rocket sounds and I think sounds from Star Wars instead of altering the toy’s actual sound effects to sound realistic.
I wouldn’t have thought that there were so many people operating this ship, but its been years since I’ve had a good look at the stickers inside of the cockpit. In this second video we get to see the evolution of the interior view of the StarBird.
Just makes me want the toy more. 😦
