I don’t know if it’s the heat or my allergies, but I just can’t think of anything to write about today. I have the final part of the Wild Force retrospective already programmed for tomorrow, but today I’m drawing a blank. So here are some random appearances by Spider-Man on the original Electric Company.

While the current series is about kids with literacy-based superpowers (don’t ask me, I only work here), the original was a skit show with only three super-powered characters, the Blue Beetle (no connection to the DC character), the animated Adventures of Letterman (no connection to David Letterman, but it was narrated by Joan Rivers) and the Spider-Man segments which were the basis for Marvel’s Spidey Super Stories easy reader comic books. (The strips also appeared in the Electric Company magazine.) I grabbed a few at random to give you an idea of how the skits went.

Have to start with the origin, so to speak.

You can guess why I chose this one.

Maybe he should have webbed the kids, too? Spidey would also do the occasional skit. Here are a couple with the Blue Beetle.

I’ll save the rest for other filler videos. While none of the episodes ever acknowledged Peter Parker or the rest of the Spidey cast, the comics featured three short stories, one being an adaptation of the episodes and the others guest-starring other Marvel characters. They’re worth a read, if only for a good laugh, considering the hoops the writers went through for a comic targeted a bit younger than the usual comics.
