And yet not the coolest dino comic I'll be reading this week.

Richie Rich: Rich Rescue #2

Ape Entertainment/Kidzoic (2011)

LETTERER: David Hedgecock
COVER ART: Jack Lawrence

Once again there are four stories, and even the weakest one is a fun read.

The cover story, “The Pursuit of Pesos”, finds Rich Rescue looking for a museum artifact that ends up transporting our heroes to the time of the dinosaurs. Buddy Scalera takes writing chores with Marcelo Ferreira on art and both do a good job of Richie doging dinosaurs and ancient warriors. Guess someone owes the Young Earth Creationists an apology. 😀 (DISCLAIMER: I really don’t know a lot about the group. I’m just making a lame joke.)

The second story is the weak one I mentione, “Ma Ma My Irona”. Tom DeFalco is just assuming we all know that Reggie is a big enough jerk to take the abuse Irona deals out when the little greedbucket buys her services in an auction for 24 hours. Even knowing what a jerk Reggie can be, nothing we saw in the previous issue or the first story shows she can purposely screw up his rather tame (for Reggie) orders or destroying his limo. She actually comes off worse for it. Armando Zanker’s art style is very different from the rest of the comic but otherwise it isn’t bad by any stretch.

This time the third story isn’t based on the classic comics. That’s kind of too bad, or even better, set this one in the style of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, issue 3 in the movies and the one for issue 4 (last of this mini-series) on the more recent cartoon, to honor the other media he’s appeared in. Of course they we wouldn’t have “Hello Fellow Hostages, Are You Ready To Rock?” Matt Anderson writes a Cadbury story in which he attends a rock concert only to have it taken over by a bunch of anti-enviromentalist. I have a few minor qualms with it, that would only make sense if you’ve followed the debate on political messages during concerts. But otherwise who cares, Cadbury kicking the snot of the bad guys is worth it, especially with Amy Mebberson and James Silvani on art duties.

Patrick Rills brings us this week’s Keanbean’s Gadget corner with Silvani back on art. It’s a cute little piece.

So once again I have to ask why this isn’t an ongoing. This is a great title for kids, but I enjoyed it, too. Hear me, Ape Entertainment? Make this an ongoing already!

Sorry, guys, this is cool and all but I am reviewing Super Dinosaur this week.

At least I didn’t do the Kanye West joke, right?
