Wow, I've not come as far from this as I'd like, but there's still an improvement.

Yeah, no Jake & Leon this week (what you see here is the first official comic just to have something here, because my scanner doesn’t work anymore. Apparently a storm got past my surge protector somehow. Very annoyed, since I’d rather be spending the money getting ready for ComiCONN at the end of the month. I’ve had to use my parents’ scanner just to do the daily comic review. So if you need a fix there’s the Archive page. Just click the “Jake & Leon Archives” tab at the top of the page.

The least I can do is put together a news wrap-up for this week.

comics

  • Dark Horse’s digital comics distribution will soon include their entire Star Wars library. But why isn’t Droids on the list yet, Dark Horse? WHY?
  • The trailer is out for Frank Miller’s Holy Terror, originally intended to be a Batman story post-9/11. He…made a few changes. Start the pool now as to how long it takes to show up on Atop The Fourth Wall‘s “Miller Time” segment.

television/movies

  • OK, this isn’t related to thing1 about this site, but come on. Former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss is preparing to do a show…about parrots? How do you not mention that?
  • Nickelodeon’s “Teen Nick” spin-off channel will be bringing back their parent network’s 90’s TV shows like All That, Doug, Clarissa Explains It All, Double Dare, and whatever else they can repeat, as a late-night programming block. Sadly, no announcement for The Tomorrow People.
  • It seems Luke may continuing his own turn to the dark side. Mark Hamill will be playing a villain on Chuck. Hamill is certainly no stranger to playing villains, but I wonder when he’ll play a good guy again. Or did I miss a role?
  • IO9 grades the winners and losers of Comic-Con. The fact that this is in the TV section instead of the comics section should tell you something, and IO9 is favorable to comics.
  • The next time you hear about a Writer’s Guild strike and feel sorry for them, read this article first. The Guild aren’t exactly saints.

video games

I didn’t catch any video game news for this week’s Wrap-Up, although I have been busy lately. Most of this came from a pile-up of e-newsletters, and I didn’t even have time to go through them all.

in other news

  • The Space Shuttle program is over and NASA doesn’t seem to have a replacement. Could there be a positive?
  • The Clutter Reports: At last week’s convention (I hope to have some more video up this week) I took part in a raffle and won a Storage Shell Donatello figure from the 90’s So I didn’t a joint review with an earlier version of the character from the same line.
  • This Week’s Cracked: Remember that line in Spaceballs where Dark Helmet tells the king “it’s not what you think, it’s actually much worse”? Well, apparently Robert Brockway had one of those moments. After doing an article about 5 Urgent Questions About the Live Action “Akira” Remake, someone sent him what may be The Actual Live Action “Akira” Script: Worse Than You Think. Sometimes truth actually is stranger than fiction. Now granted I watched the original and still have no clue what the hell happened, which may or may not be blamed on the Sci-Fi channel edit, but it’s still sad to read.

Best Scene of This Week’s Reviews

Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #5

The only light moment that is actually good. Do more stuff like this! Or watch the later Godzilla movies and see how they do it!

I think that’s what bugs me most about this comic. The potential is there, but I’m not seeing a good payoff.
