Warehouse 13 #1
(based on the SyFy television)
(Dynamite Entertainment (2011)
WRITERS: Ben Raab, Deric A. Hughes ARTIST: Ben Morse COLOR ASSISTS: Jonathan Cooper LETTERER: Bill Tortolini (photo cover also available)Warehouse 13 tells the story of Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering, Secret Service agents drafted to work at a warehouse that houses strange magical artifacts. When these artifacts end up in peoples’ hands, Pete and Myka must track them down, neutralize the artifact, and return it to safe storage at the secret warehouse. Things are seldom that easy, and the crazy is glorious. It’s my favorite current series, so I really want to like the comic going in.
This issue sees Pete and Myka sent by their poss, Artie Neilsen, to uncover the source of a series of seismic events in Rio. What they find is a Chinese hammer used to build the Great Wall of China and its rather desperate owner.
What they got right: If you’re a fan of this show, I have great news: all the fun and action of this show are in tact. The characters are the characters, but none of this is any surprise. The writers of the comic are the head writers of the show. The art does a great job resembling the actors on the show, and it all leads to feeling like an extension of the source material.
What they got wrong: There really isn’t enough, even a simple page, to explain the series to readers who haven’t caught the show. You can get some of the story based on what the characters say, but being a fan of the show I felt like there wasn’t enough to inform newcomers to the franchise.
Recommendation: Fans of the show should consider this comic a must buy. If you’re not a fan, I still recommend checking it out. I could be wrong in my assessment of how newcomers can get into the show based on the fact that I already know this series…and love it. If you hate the show, I weep for you, but you won’t like this comic.

"Wait, how did SHE eat my pie." "Just trust me, Myka, she did, not me."
