Kaiju are running loose in Japan, and Sato is blaming himself. With Takahashi holding the Elias (and killing the priests when they come for the little ladies), he believes that Mothra is his to command and will rule Tokyo openly. However, if Jiro can drag his father away from the bottle, the detective may have a second chance to make up for his sins with the help of his other son, Koji…and Mechagodzilla!

What they got right: This is what I wanted to see in a Godzilla comic: monsters smashing stuff, humans be affected by monsters smashing stuff and being part of the story, Mechagodzilla, G-Force (from the movies, not Battle of the Planets or that guinea pig flick), the lack of heavy-handed satire. This feels more like a Godzilla story.

What they got wrong: I’m still not into the art style, but that’s personal preference. One thing that the main series is trying to do are light moments to keep things from getting TOO dark. While I think they fail, it would be nice to see here. I’ve seen it done right in movies like Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla 2000 (I see a pattern), so I know it’s possible.

Recommendation: This is becoming a better and better comic. Recommended for all G-Fans. Non-Godzilla fans should at least check it out if they’re into Asian crime dramas.
