I just feel like any joke I made here would be inappropriate all things considered.

The main archangel of this series, Cameron, is sent to protect Justin, who is very much desired by Balera, the local Overlord demon. Balera sends more demons to take the boy, but Cameron turns them back and Justin awakes with survivor’s remorse. Even his friend, Nicole, seems unable to reach him, but Balera calls on a special group of demons to help claim his soul!

What they got right: The problems I have with the artwork is lessened this issue as the crosshatching is better utilized. The story flows better here as well, as we get to know more about both Cameron (including the fate of his previous charge, convinced to commit suicide by the demons) and Nicole. The “invisible war” for human souls, rather than the usual depiction of demons in movies and most notably anime and video games, makes it different enough to give proper credit, even if you don’t believe that’s how they actually operate in the real world.

What they got wrong: Layouts are still a problem. A few times I had to reread a page to ensure I had the narrative flow correctly, so the problems of the 90’s are still in effect. Faces are also limited in expression, except for Cameron’s face who may be a bit too expressive in a couple of panels.

Recommendation: An improvement over the last issue, but it’s still tough to recommend to anyone who wouldn’t already get it on concept.
