A monk sacrifices himself in hopes of releasing a protector monster, Ghidorah. Back in France, the Evil Twins find they not only control Batra but can control Rodan and set their sights on trying to control Godzilla as well. However, the King of the Monsters is the first monster to face Ghidorah.

What they got right: The fight between Batra and Ghidorah was cool and we learned a bit more about the Evil Twins (do they have an official name?) and what they can do. The best part, however, is the lack of distracting satire. Hopefully they find a better source of light moments.

What they got wrong: Ghidorah is supposed to be a threat to the Earth, even worse than Godzilla, so that the Big G is the lesser of two evils! This happened in the movies once and only because of changes behind the scenes. And no, Mecha-King Ghidorah doesn’t count, as he was under human control. The art is also kind of lacking compared to the earlier issues, the big problem being the character models, not the poses where are well done.

Recommendation: Storywise, one of the better of the series, and what I wanted to see out of this comic. The character models could be better (and have been), but it’s still worth checking out.

Everyone's an art critic.

You’ve been critical of this series (and I totally get your point), so is it fair to say you’ll read ANY Godzilla series because you’re a Godzilla fan?

    • You thought Transformers was the only property I’m a sheep for? 🙂 The thing is half the comic has been good and I’ve been wanting to see more of that, which luckily we got in this issue.

Also, I think I’m more critical of the Godzilla comic because I’m such a fan of the franchise. (See also my review of the Transformers comics.) But outside of every review possibly being someone’s first, if I restate a complaint from another review, its because it won’t stop popping up, or someone like Sgt. Woods, whom I’m supposed see as a hero because of his vet days and protecting the little girl, but left innocent people to die because he hates their show. I kind of want the girl to be the niece of one of the Jerzyfied people or something and make him at least feel guilty about his actions.

But considering I have an audio drama on CD that’s obviously geared to kids, and isn’t every good, your assessment is still accurate. 🙂
