"Aaahh, I left a cake in the oven!"

Sonic Universe #33

Archie Comics (December, 2011)

WRITER/PENCILER: Tracy Yardley
INKER: Jim Amash
COLORIST: Steve Downer
LETTERER: Phil Felix
EDITOR: Paul Kaminski

The Babylon Rouges find what the believe is the key to the Babylon Garden, a relic of their ancestors. After a flashback to how Jet, Wave, and Storm teamed up and left the Battle Bird Armada, they battle the guardian of the key, and escape to find the Battle Birds waiting for them.

What they got right: As far as I can tell, this is Yardley’s first time writing a Sonic Universe set story. He’s learned from his years of drawing it, at least thus far. There’s one action scene, which is written well, but he does a good job with Jet’s backstory. Also, good concept with the guardian as to how a solid hologram would work.

What they got wrong: Wave and Storm’s backstory are given in a bubble of dialog each.

Recommendation: Yardley may end up being as good a writer as he is an artist. Only time (and the next three issues of this arc) will tell, but it’s off to a good start.

"Did I remember my pants?" "You don't wear pants."
