Godzilla #4
IDW Publishing (August, 2012)
PART 4: “You Don’t Assign Him A Giant Monster You Just Turn Him Loose GEEZ! I’ve read shorter Japanese titles! WRITER: Duane Swierczynski ARTIST: Simon Gane COLORIST: Ronda Pattison CHOSEN COVER: Matt Frank LETTERER/CREATIVE CONSULTANT: Chris Mowry EDITOR: Bobby Curnow
The “Crew” is attacked by an angry Rodan but although the “headache guns” don’t work on Titanosaurus they do work on Rodan. They form a plan to have Rodan and Titanosaurus beat each other up and take down the survivor. But have you been wondering what they’re doing with all these monsters?
What they got right: Answering that last question for one. The monster fight is really good and I wish that had been the majority of the issue rather than our usual band of knuckleheads. Also, there may or may not be a mystery attached to the “die-offs” Urv mentions happens every time a monster shows up.
What they got wrong: Like I just said, I wish the monster fight had been the majority of the story. And I still can’t get over the fact that these clowns are using less firepower than is usually used against these kaiju and yet have better results. It’s just ridiculous.
Recommendation: Read it for the monster battle and try to ignore the humans. They don’t make sense in Godzilla’s world.
I’d make the whole monster fight the best scene if I could, but that’s past my page limit.
