Spider-Men #5
Marvel Comics (November, 2012)
WRITER: Brian Michael Bendis ARTIST: Sara Pichelli COLORIST: Justin Ponsor LETTERER: Cory Petit PRODUCTION: Mayela Gutierrez ASSISTANT EDITOR: Jon MOisan ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Sana Amanat EDITOR: Mark Paniccia
Mysterio is dragged into the Ultimate Universe to be imprisoned there. He puts up a minor struggle. Back in his home dimension, Peter looks to see if there is a Miles Morales in his universe and makes a shocking find not shared with the readers. (Sequel bait?)
What they got right: I like the moment at the end with Peter and Miles. The costumes still look good.
What they got wrong: Not a whole lot happened in this issue. A lot of talking, which has been the norm for this mini, and not much else. There is no big showdown with Mysterio; just a couple of pages of Ults Iron Man, Spidey, and Fury plus 616 Spidey barely reacting (if you look at the art) to some horrific personal events. Also, no resolution for Ultimate Mary Jane, so Bendis just took a moment to torture her a bit. Nice going. 😛
Recommendation: An interesting read, but ultimately (no pun intended–at least consciously) nothing really worth picking up. It could have been worse, but it could have been better, too.
