We meet for the last time, in-your-face-Cylon.

Because unless there’s one I don’t know about, this is the last of the Maximum Press run to be reviewed. And if there are more, I am not about to spend money on it. You’ve seen my pain, but now you see the end.
So Starbuck in on an Eastern Alliance penal colony but with the help of the resistance from their Western foes, the Galactica is on its way. Sadly so is Leiter and his bombing ships are coming with him. Prepare for the final battle and the final “Liefeld’s Galactica“!
Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #3
FINAL ISSUE
STORY: Rob Liefeld & Robert Napton SCRIPT: Robert Napton ARTIST: Hector Gomez COLORIST: Scott Rockwell COLOR SEPARATIONS: Quantum FX LETTERER: Kurt Hathaway EDITOR: Matt HawkinsYou know, I’m starting to think they just used the stock credits from the main minis. They still have the “updated characters & ship designs” credits for Liefeld and Karl Altstaetter, even though these have the classic Viper design and characters resemble the actors during the original series.
Blue Squadron and the East’s attack fleet converge on Lunar-One, the former to rescue their teammate and the later to blow it up. The colony’s commander, Kresh, pretty much loses it after learning the transmitter was left on, killing the attendant. Meanwhile Joseph and Watts begin their parts in leading a prison break (And to prove it’s the 90’s Justine blows up one guard using a dynamite-carrying arrow.) Joseph goes back for Starbuck.
In space, the two groups arrive and battle commences. On the planet, Joseph and Justine have a happy reunion, but there are more prisoners in the underground bunker and Joseph want to get them out. Justine volunteers to go in his place and Starbuck decides to go with her. That’s probably a good idea because Kresh has gone on a shooting spree of his own men! In a scene that shows somebody doesn’t get the concept of “underground”, Starbuck and Justine are joined by another member and see the first Alliance destroyer begins its bombing run as Kresh sees them from…somewhere. I’m not really certain. Dang it, why did Liefeldian shenanigans have to pop up. Things were going so well.
Kresh gets his hand on Justine and Starbuck, also trying to avenge the man who impersonated Joseph, gets into a fight to free her. Then this happens.
Actually, he knew you weren’t from the rest, Starbuck. He keeps calling you “alien”.
So Starbuck says his goodbyes to the Westerns as they have a shuttle coming for them. Justine may miss him, but he’s happy to see Cassiopeia once he returns to the Galactica, and even the man he doesn’t know is his father. But mostly the hot blond.
It’s sad that there are missteps in this last issue. Thankfully, though, they’re minor and don’t detract from the story. This was surprisingly good throughout. Nothing made my head hurt, it was a good action story, and two thirds of the stories Dynamite has done in the classic continuity follow the “everyone thinks Starbuck’s dead after they lose contact behind enemy lines” story. No, seriously, find a new plot; I’m getting tired of this.
Beyond that, I won’t be sending this one to Linkara (which I hope to arrange after the holidays because I’m about to be very busy getting the Christmas stuff done here at the Spotlight) because I don’t think it deserves to burn. Granted, in a better comic run this would be an average to weak story, but for Maximum Press and Liefeld’s Galactica it’s the best you can hope for. And with that said…
THIS IS THE END OF MY SUFFERING THROUGH ROB LIEFELD’S VISION FOR BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I still have more Battlestar Galactica to discuss so we’re not done yet. We’re just done with this horrible series of comics ruining another chapter of my childhood. I feel so free, so at peace. Praise the Lords of Kobol! So long, in-y0ur-face-Cylon. You and the crappy stories you represented will not be missed.
