Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who – Assimilation2 #7

WRITERS: Scott & David Tipton
PENCILER: Gordon Purcell
PAINTED ARTIST: J.K. Woodward (also selected cover art)
LETTERER: Tom Be. Long

The TARDIS crew get the copy of the “executive library” and return to the “present”. Then the Doctor uses the TARDIS to get an away team to the Cyberman-controlled Borg fleet but when they’re spotted they’re on the run. Just another day for the Doctor and friends, really.

What they got right: One of the big complaints I’ve seen against this comic is the lack of anything happening, making the fact that something happened last issue stand out. This issue may spend half the book with the Doctor explaining the Borg (which most Star Trek fans know about) but the last part has the two groups arriving on the Cyber-controlled cube. It’s finally time for action.

What they got wrong: Which we won’t see until next issue. As the top complaint I’ve seen this seems like a mistake but at least the characters don’t spend the entire comic just talking.

Recommendation: It’s rare when I’m the one saying wait until the trade, but I have a feeling the payoff will be better since this appears to be a story intended to be read all at once rather than in a serialized format. While this is a shame, that’s what they did and that’s why I have to point to the trade.

Another day traveling on the TARDIS.
