Godzilla: The Half-Century War #4
IDW Publishing (December, 2012)
WRITER/ARTIST: James Stokoe COLOR ASSISTS: Heather Breckel EDITOR: Bobby Curnow
Bombay, 1987: The AMF is but a shadow of its former self, now only scouting for new projects, like Mechagodzilla. Ota comes across Deverich during one of these missions as well as Deverich’s new, super-powered monster beacons. Only this one is so powerful that it brings monsters from space, like Space Godzilla. Since this is Space-G’s first appearance in this continuity, Ota will have to forge a surprising alliance to save Bombay and the entire planet. But this may not be the last space monster to land on Earth.
What they got right: Mechagodzilla! YAY! *ahem* I mean seeing Godzilla and Mechagodzilla on the same side (yes, I guess I just ruined that) was a nice moment to see. This is Space Godzilla’s first appearance here and there are indications that he’ll be ending up in the ongoing as well. Plus there are hints that Gigan and Ghirodah are on their way. The monsters still look good.
What they got wrong: However the humans still aren’t my visual taste. It’s not enough to take me out of the story but still notable enough to mention here.
Recommendation: I’ve been enjoying this mini thus far and I’m looking forward to more. Pick this one up.
Also, this seems to be my week for comics too good to point to one moment as a stand out.

Did IDW just unlock Space Godzilla’s copyright or something? He appears here and in Godzilla the same month. Depending on the order you read them, it takes away from one of his surprise appearances.

He does show up at the end of Kingdom of Monsters indicating Space-G was going to be important at some point. It could just be a coincidence.
