He-Man & The Masters of the Universe #6

He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe #6

FINAL ISSUE

DC Comics (March, 2013)

“The Power!”
WRITER: Keith Giffen
ARTIST: Pop Mhan
COLORIST: lee Loughridge
LETTERER: Saida Temofonte
COVER: Dave Wilkins
EDITOR: Michael McCalister

With their memories restored, the Heroic Warriors (no, I’m not calling them the “Masters”; that’s supposed to represent both sides not just the heroes) reassemble. He-Man and Teela make their way to Castle Greyskull, where He-Man and Skeletor have their final confrontation. Or is it?

What they got right: The “final” battle with He-Man and Skeletor was well done, and what you’d expect after everything the Heroic Warriors have been through. We get cameos from more characters; Ram-Man, Stratos, Roboto, Randor, and some guys I don’t recognize.

What they got wrong: They don’t actually do anything since He-Man and Teela sneak out with Battle Cat to reclaim Castle Greyskull. Also, two things I REALLY didn’t want to see show up in this comic, although for some reason I’m not bothered by the heroes killing evil dudes. The Sorceress beheaded, though? What? Why would you do that? I’m hoping she can be restored with Zoar still holding her spirit, though. The other thing is that Orko somehow betrayed the Heroic Warriors to Skeletor. Apparently either Giffen, or Robertson if Giffen was just going on his notes, decided to do to Orko what the live-action Scooby-Doo movie did to Scrappy and make the kiddie/mascot character the bad guy. If this isn’t reversed in the ongoing, then Masters of the Universe will join Voltron as a nostalgia comic I’m ignoring for ruining childhood favorites.

Recommendation: I was tentatively with this comic until this issue. Now I’m hoping the ongoing repairs the damage of this issue. I’m not sure I can recommend this for series fans and especially not any of my fellow Orko fans.

This is why you always have at least one female on your team.

I was happy to see Moss Man, my favorite hero in MOTU, make an appearance (although very brief) in issue #6. Just like you, I also found it to be quite disturbing that Orko is portrayed as a betrayer. I’m an Orko fan just like how I’m a Snarf fan (Thundercats) and a Scooter fan (Go-Bots). I was sad to see the Sorceress decapitated. Overall though, I did like this issue. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed this whole mini-series. I have a question about the ending of this issue. Who is Skeletor talking with at the end of issue#6? Is that supposed to be Hordak whohe is speaking with?
