Doctor Who: Prisoners Of Time #2
IDW Publishing (February, 2013)
WRITERS: Scott & David Tipton ARTIST: Lee Sullivan COLORIST: Phil Elliott LETTERER: Tom B. Long EDITOR: Denton J. Tipton SELECTED COVER ART: Francesco Francavilla
The Second Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe arrive on a space shopping mall (to paraphrase Linkara, it’s like a regular shopping mall, but spaaaaccceee) and come across a slave operation…and a store that sells Police Boxes that reminds me of the place I bought my TARDIS in Second Life.
What they got right: This felt more like the chosen Doctor than the previous issue. This is how the Doctor acted, although I don’t know if he would manipulate Jamie like he does here. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen enough stories with these two. I do know that they play well off of each other and I’m glad they used Zoe, since my first introduction to the Second Doctor was a novelization of “The Wheel In Space” and I really like her character in that book and in “The Invasion”.
What they got wrong: Why is there a store that sells Police Boxes? At this point the Doctor isn’t a legend yet (time travel makes no sense on this show, you know). What would be the draw?
Recommendation: An improvement over the previous issue, and a decent introduction to the Second Doctor and his friends. Take a look.
