Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #21
IDW Publishing (April, 2013)
STORY/ART: Kevin Eastman SCRIPT: Tom Waltz COLORIST: Ronda Pattison LETTERER: Shawn Lee EDITOR: Bobby Curnow
The Turtles’ latest training session is undone when they’re attacked by a masked foe using numerous fighting styles. Speaking of masks Shredder and Dr. Miller have come across Kitsune!
What they got right: After the Dimension X arc, a good stand-alone story fits in fine. Eastman gets into the art duties and after reading the Color Classics reprints you can see how far he’s come as an artist. Was he great? No, but there is a lot of improvement. While I won’t reveal the attacker here, it really works and makes sense.
What they got wrong: If nobody read Secret History of the Foot Clan (which I do recommend reading) they’re not going to know who Miller or Kitsune is or why they matter. Might be a good idea next issue to fix that.
Recommendation: A good stand-alone story worth giving a read.
