Tony 2.0 has decided he can run things better than the original and frames him for Sondheim and being the Marvel Universe that’s rather easy. As original Tony gets help from Rhodey, Tony 2.0 attempts to recruit Rae. As she not-so-politely tells him no she ends up being targeted by the malicious code and even Iron Man can save her. But can he save his digital double’s next target?
What they got right: Superhero goes into hiding stories is nothing new for Marvel but this one is able to find a way to make it interesting. Staying aware of the intended time period nobody has cell phones or discussing Game Of Thrones or anything like that, but they also aren’t shoehorning in references to say “hey this story takes place in 1990”. The battle between Iron Man and the 2.0-controlled tank was good, even if nothing from it made it into the Best Scene nomination (and yes, there is one).
What they got wrong: First Doctor Sondheim and now Rae. Was Layton planning to fridge EVERY female character in the series at the time? Was Mrs. Arbogast next? And was Layton planning to use Rae as yet another Madame Masque red-herring? Weren’t we tired of that yet? Because if she was supposed to be the actual one, this is a rather anti-climactic finish for her.
Recommendation: If they can stop killing all of the female character in the series this could still be a decent story. Barring that it’s an interesting bit of revealed history so that alone is worth checking out.
