Old Hob has had a hard life, which has made him rather cold. As he tells his backstory to Slash, the Turtles arrive, setting up #23 of the main series.

What they got right: While not about to cheer on Old Hob he always came off the least evil of the villains the Turtles have fought; just a punk out for revenge. Turns out that’s pretty much what he is. The lack of Leonardo tells us his kidnapping is going to be a long arc.

What they got wrong: Maybe my memory needs refreshing, but I thought Hob’s first introduction to Stockman and “Allan” took place AFTER he had his own goons to go after Splinter and the Turtles with. The first time we see our heroes (minus Raphael who was missing at the time) Hob had a whole gang to challenge the guys. And later Hob offers his services to go after Splinter.

Recommendation: So far the villains stories have been well balanced, not to redeem the villains but to explain why they are what they are. Hob has an interesting backstory and I’ll be curious to see what becomes of him in the future. If you’re following the main series, you should already have this.

No Best Scene nomination because it only works together.
