Mega Man #30
Archie Comics (December, 2013)
“Curse Of Ra Moon” part two “Phases Of Evil” WRITER: Ian Flynn PENCILER: Mike Cavallaro INKER: Gary Martin COLORIST: Matt Herms LETTERER: John Workman SELECTED COVER ART: Capcom ASSISTANT EDITOR: Vincent Lovallo EDITOR: Paul Kaminski
Mega Man’s team arrives at the Amazon, and of course comes up against Wily’s bots. After a tussle they’re actually willing to listen to reason and decide something is up with Ra Moon, Break Man filling in the gaps they know. They’re also concerned that the Wily Bots created by Ra Moon (except those of Wily’s first creation, the last group Mega Man fought) are under his control, as is the mysterious Shadow Man that was found with Ra Moon. Snake Man and Needle Man prove Break Man right, and under Ra Moon’s control prepare to ambush Mega Man and Break Man as they prepare to sneak into Wily/Ra Moon’s base of operations.
What they got right: It’s the obligatory “hero and villain team up against a worse threat” story, but it works because Wily’s bots, like their creator, have a line they won’t cross, as we saw in the Sonic crossover. So it’s easy to believe they would join forces this quickly.
What they got wrong: Nothing really comes to mind.
Recommendation: All the stalling on the Sonic story and playing games with reality again kind of chased me off of the title, but only because of my current budget. This comic, however, is one I want to keep reading because I always enjoy it.
