It seems that unless you have the right name in your movie title, you’re unlikely to make headway in Hollywood. Why is that? What is the real power of the “brand” and whose at fault if new ideas get buried in the process. That Guy With The Glasses contributor Matthew “Film Brain” Buck ponders this on his personal Tumblr page. The host of Bad Movie Beatdown and The Projector also wonders if one show isn’t having a negative impact on the other. Personally I only watch the Projector episodes (a review of theaters that hit the UK, where he lives, prior to worldwide release) when it focuses on a movie I might be curious about (and I have to at least heard of it before) while I watch Bad Movie Beatdown for the analysis of why a movie is bad, which is of interest to me not as a critic but as a writer who doesn’t want to make the same errors. I like Matt’s work and would watch more of the other show if I had the spare time. I used to have that.
