Getting to Janko has now become personal for Jonny, since he took Bandit. Elizabet suggests he will be fine because in Janko’s village a dog like Bandit is said to be connected to a great spirit. Our heroes catch up to Janko’s circus, who is willing to turn against him as he puts them in jeopardy for his own escape. The Quest Team then tracks Janko to a castle the locals think houses vampires…and has been appearing in Jonny’s nightmares!
What they got right: You know how modern comics almost feel padded out to fit a trade? This doesn’t feel like that. It feels like it needs this many issues (I think in concludes in the next issue or two) to tell the story. Benton and Race’s temporary concern about Elizabet makes sense even though she’s been helpful but is put aside quickly enough. You see just what the Rom go through, but despite worries about vampires they don’t come off as stupid or terrible people. (Well, except for that one lady at the inn but she’s meant to be.)
What they got wrong: It feels like some scenes are missing because I wonder when Stephan and Tezra (the girl Jessie’s been trying to get arrested) became friends.
Recommendation: Still into this storyline. Find a copy if you can.
