Godzilla: Rulers Of Earth #7
IDW Publishing (December, 2013)
STORY: Chris Mowry & Matt Frank WRITER: Chris Mowry ART: Matt Frank & Jeff Zornow INK ASSISTS: Mostafa Moussa COLORIST: Priscilla Tramontano SELECTED COVER ART: Matt Frank (artist) and Tommy Shelton (colorist) LETTERER: Shawn Lee EDITOR: Bobby CurnowGodzilla doesn’t understand the concept of “ally” as he turns on Jet Jaguar, even after a second fight with Gigan. Meanwhile the aliens grab the remains of Ogra and end up with Wood and Chavez accidentally. As that goes on the roboticist who found Jet Jaguar seeks the help of the Kaiju investigators.
What they got right: As much as I don’t like watching heroes fight (and on some level Godzilla is a hero here, just not like the classic Godzilla) the fight between Godzilla and Jet Jaguar is really cool. Gigan’s fight between the two is also decent. We also get the various humans we’ve been following closer together and hopefully next issue we’ll learn more about the two alien groups and what they’re up to.
What they got wrong: I’m starting to worry we’re getting too many humans. None of the humans from previous main universe Godzilla miniseries have shown up save for Woods and a mention of the Monster Kill Crew in passing. Unless this cast is going to be showing up in future storylines it’s a lot of people to keep track of, and I still don’t remember most of the Kaiju investigators names or what the official name of their team is.
Recommendation: If the Best Scene nomination doesn’t convince you to buy this comic nothing I say here will matter.
