Bucky O'Hare #1 Special Edition

After doing today’s review of the Bucky O’Hare comic the theme song from the animated series got stuck in my head. And why not? It was quite cool, and the intro was great.

Did you catch the part in the beginning where the toad soldier falls over the toy rabbit? I’m not sure I’d call it foreshadowing but considering the plot of the show it’s a nice bonus visual.

I went through three videos to get one with Toad WARS instead of the Canadian Toad Menace. Canada really think kids can’t handle the word “war”. See also renaming War Planets into Shadow Raiders, which is still better than calling Beast Wars by Beasties. Seriously, look the intro up for that. One word change makes it unintentionally hilarious.

The comic was originally published by Continuity Comics as part of an anthology series, Echo Of Futurepast. It was later collected into a graphic novel and the UK created a second storyline in their run. (According to Wikipedia Larry Hama did have a second arc written.) I wouldn’t mind seeing those republished, even digitally (as long as I can download it–I don’t want to pay for something and then not have it because the online server crashed).

The show was released by Sunbow and Abrams/Gentile Entertainment. The animation was done by AKOM, and I have no idea who did the theme song. But it’s a good intro song. It gets you pumped for the action, they get a sound-off of all the characters (except for Bruiser for some reason) and you get an idea what the show is about. Only complaint: “Funky fresh rabbit”? Come on, 90’s. Really?

The show itself a fun adventure that deserved more than 13 episodes. There hasn’t been a DVD release, at least here in the US, but you might find some VHS tapes or an online posting. If you liked the intro, you’ll like the show.
