The Lost World: Jurassic Park #2
Topps Comics (June,1997)
WRITER: Don McGregor PENCILER: Jeff Butler INKER: Armando Gil COVER ART: Walter Simonson & Richard Ory COLORING: Digital Chameleon LETTERER: Ken Lopez EDITOR: Renee Witterstaetter
Nearly being crushed by a stegosaurus hasn’t dulled Sarah’s drive to study the dinosaurs, much to Ian’s dismay. Things get worse for him when he finds out his daughter, Kelly, stowed away with the team Ian came with. Then the hunters arrive, looking to take dinosaurs to a place in San Diego Hammond had planned to bring them to before the Jurassic Park nightmare. However, one of them is looking for a bigger prize…to hunt a tyrannosaurus rex!
What they got right: It’s not easy getting the movie’s pacing into comic form but they’re moving along well enough. The art is decent and even if the characters aren’t quite coming through in my head with the movie actors what we get isn’t too bad. It is tough to replicate the way Goldblum said his lines in text form.
What they got wrong: At one point Roland breaks the leg of the t-rex baby Ajay is using for bait to catch the parent. Ajay quotes a line from Animal Farm (“four legs good, two legs bad”). I know what they were going for but that felt kind of forced.
Recommendation: Not bad but I still think you’re better off with the movie.
