Iron Man Volume 2 #4
Marvel (February, 1997)
The closest thing to a title I can see is “Bring Me The Head Of The Hulk!” being screamed by General Ross but the Hulk is barely a part of this story so let’s just assume they didn’t title this one. WRITERS: Scott Lobdell & Jim Lee PENCILER: Ryan Benjamin INKER: Saleem Crawford COLORISTS: Joe Chiodo & Martin Jimenez COMPUTER COLORS: Wildstorm FX LETTERS: Comicraft EDITOR: Mike Heisler
Liz’s father, General Ross, is bedridden but is fired up about taking the Hulk out. Liz, however, may be putting the pieces together as Bruce contacts Doc Samson. That takes place during the rest of the story. Tony is building an armory and learning just what his company has been up to since he “checked out’ and he isn’t happy. However, first he must deal with his own sins in form of Arthur Parks, whose obsession has turned him into the Living Laser. Meanwhile, Pepper has an uninvited guest at her apartment…Whirlwind!
I’m sorry, they got NOTHING right in this comic. The art makes any cool fight scene uninteresting and there are perspective problems with the Hulk that makes me look like George Perez in comparison. If I’m supposed to feel sorry for Arthur Parks, I don’t. Whatever Tony did to him, Parks still had a wife and could rebuild. Instead he took revenge and gave up what little Stark couldn’t take away from him at his most jerkish. There’s maybe one cute moment with Tony and Pepper talking about his armor and Tony worrying the Prometheus might turn him bad or something, but that’s it.
Considering I can’t find anything at all good to say about this comic save two panels this may be the worst of the comics I’ve read yet. Best to avoid this whole event but this issue especially.
