I don’t follow this comic but it looks like the obligatory “Doctor Doom tries to steal the Power Cosmic from the Silver Surfer” story hit a snag thanks to the Super Skrull, who grabbed the power instead. In this reality Galactus took out the Skrull homeworld and Super Skrull wants revenge against the herald who brought him there. Reed and Doom are able to transfer the power back to the Surfer, and he ponders this act of kindness.
Not having seen what came before this is all exposition and technobabble so I can’t really judge the story. The art is typical 90’s, sad to say.
No, the reason I picked this up is the “Industrial Revolution” prologue. Doom learns about Avengers Island going boom, which was also mentioned in last week’s Iron Man. I’m guessing Hulk’s story was going through all of the “Heroes Reborn” titles because it seems he’s connected to the Island’s explosion, and somehow Doom’s computers discover that the Hulk is actually his former friend Bruce Banner. (Doom, Reed, Bruce, Tony, and Rebel (new to Heroes Reborn as far as I can tell) used to be a team of scientists calling themselves the Atomic Knights Of The Round Table.) Doom is certain he can succeed at getting Hulk’s power where he failed to get Silver Surfer’s.
The art is slightly better here. For example Reborn Hulk’s proportions look believable for the first time since I’ve seen him. There’s still the crosshatching and exaggerated detail, but it’s the 90s. I’ll take what I can get.
Unless you’re finishing the previous story or preparing for “Industrial Revolution” there’s nothing to recommend. You’ll either be lost or not care. It’s just the nature of a final chapter/start next chapter comic.
