Bio-Booster Armor Guyver part 6 #6
FINAL ISSUE
Viz Comics (1997)
originally published by Tokuma Shoten Publishing Company
“Devastated!” WRITER/ARTIST: Yoshiki Takaya ENGLISH ADAPTATION: Fred Burke TRANSLATION: Kaoru Hosaka TOUCH-UP ART/LETTERER: Bill Spicer COVER DESIGN: Viz Graphics ASSISTANT EDITOR: Toshifumi Yoshida EDITOR: Annette Roman
Our heroes decide to use the Relic itself to explode Relics Point and take Chronos with it. Meanwhile, Gyro attempts to use his ultimate attack on Alkanphel…a miniature black hole that has even the most powerful of the Zoalords concerned! [continues only in Japan]
What they got right: The whole series was well done, from the art to the writing, as we followed Sho and his friends. Here we see how Sho has grown into his role as the Guyver, as it’s his idea to hide everyone in the Relic so they’ll be safe when they use it to trash the place. The action was also good.
What they got wrong: Ending on this cliffhanger. Even today the series continues on but I’ll probably never know how or if Sho and Agito take out Chronos Japan or what happened between Gyro and Alkanphel. In the comic Viz said they were going on hiatus but they should have just said canceled because as far as I know neither Viz nor anybody else has reprinted further volumes of Bio-Booster Armor Guyver.
Recommendation: If you don’t mind the blood and dismemberment (which was only done when the story needed it), this is a series I very much recommend but stick to the collected trades rather than the usual US comic style.
As for the Friday review, we’re all out of Guyvers, so we need something new. I’m still staying in the area of Japan for our next, “ultra-sized” review set.
