I said that today I would show you a bit of an Ultraman fighting a whole army of monsters by himself. And by golly I’m going to deliver it. So let’s get right down to business.

“Battling Jack” round 9

The Battlefield: Ultraman #2 (Harvey/Ultracomics; August, 1993) “Rebirth” (based on Ultraman: Towards The Future)

The Promoters: Dwayne McDuffie (writer), Ernie Colon (penciler), Alfredo Alcala (inker), Clydene Nee & Jason Doerck (colorists), and Dan Nakrosis (letterer)

Ultraman is too late to stop Gudis from releasing all the monsters he had stored up there. And since “Ultraman Great” (his Japanese non de plume) never thinks to call the other Ultramen for help, he’s got to stop them all himself.

It’s like fighting an army of monsters by yourself was a BAD idea.

But you don’t get called Ultraman by being a slouch in the fightin’ department.

“Hey, that’s attached, you know!

So I guess two heads weren’t better than one.

How does he decide which monsters to put into orbit and which ones to blow up?

I wonder what would have happened had McDuffie knew WHY Ultraman (Great) had a time-limit?
