Godzilla (Marvel) #6

So that’s how the Calico crew got Godzilla. Slave auction.

Godzilla #6

Marvel Comics (January, 1978)

“A Monster Enslaved!”
WRITER: Doug Moench
ARTIST: Herbe Trimpe
COLORIST: Phil Rachelson (still black and white reprint)
LETTERER: Bruce Patterson
EDITOR: Archie Goodwin

SHIELD creates a helicarrier specifically to pursue Godzilla, and they luck out when he ends up inside a cave. They gas him and take him to a special holding facility but when he wakes up he’s not happy with his new digs. Meanwhile, Jimmy fails with Tamara as Tamaguchi is shown the new robot created to fight Godzilla. Rob, still convinced Godzilla is a hero (and some how the 12-year-old seems smarter than the kid from the first and third Gamera movies), sneaks into the robot determined to use it to help Godzilla but gets fried by the telepathic helmet link.

What they got right: I like the concept of the Behemoth. Being able to carry Godzilla means it’s not exactly sleek or sexy but it does the job.

What they got wrong: While I don’t have a problem with the story, I still want to see more monster battles.

Recommendation: I like it but the strength of this comic is what it sets up next issue. Still worth getting.
