Godzilla #10
Marvel Comics (May, 1978)
“Godzilla Versus Yetrigar” WRITER: Doug Moench PENCILER: Herb Trimpe INKER: Fred Kida COLORIST: Mary Titus (good news, next week I’ll actually have an issue in color!) LETTERER: John Costanza EDITOR: Archie GoodwinGodzilla’s travel takes him near a place where bomb testing used to happen until one killed the workers and mutated a Sasquatch that happened to be trapped there at the time and has already further damaged the Behemoth. As their battle wages, Jimmy apologizes for kissing Tamara, and Rob sneaks away from them and toward Red Ronin. Back in control of the robot, he rockets to where Godzilla and the monster Rob names “Yetrigar” have chosen as a battleground…the Grand Canyon!
What they got right: Godzilla fighting monsters again. That’s what we want in a Godzilla comic, not some sad sack gambler. And it’s a good start to the fight too, which leads into next issue.
What they got wrong: Since this issue still comes from the Essential collection I still have black & white, but is that ice that Yetrigar is trapped in pre-mutation? In the desert?
Recommendation: I don’t know what was going on with last issue but now we’re back to the good stuff. Go get this one.
