Scribblenauts Unmasked: A Crisis Of Imagination #6
DC Comics (August, 2014)
“Would You Care To Step Outside” WRITER: Josh Elder ARTIST: Adam Archer COLORIST: Ian Herring LETTERER: Saida TemofonteZod tricks the Phantom Stranger into releasing them from the Phantom Zone, but the other Justice League members arrive and capture them (with help from Maxwell), then release their friends. Maxwell then needs to help them deal with the effects of the Zone. As the heroes prepare themselves for the battle ahead, one of the Anti-Monitor’s spirits ruins the party to show them that his plan is in full effect.
What they got right: We have a good balance of the fighting and downtime moments in this story. The Phantom Zone taking away memories led to a good character moment for Batman and Lilli’s selfies are actually a plot device. Nice way to work that in. Also, the spirit finding a way to get into the Fortress was quite clever.
What they got wrong: I’m with Lilli in that I don’t want to see heroes fighting each other, either.
Recommendation: This is currently the closest thing to a New 52 comic worth reading and it’s good to see a superhero comic that kids can enjoy with some neat things for us older readers as well. I hope you’re getting this for the younger readers…and maybe yourself.
