Calvin And Hobbes hasn’t seen a new strip since 1995, but it’s fans may actually be growing thanks to published works, the internet, and the continued celebration by it’s fans that for once is completely justified. Bill Waterson, now a legend in the comic strip world, created great characters in fun situations. It’s not hard to find writers and cartoonists influenced by his work.
For example one of those fans, our old pal the Comic Strip Critic, posted on Twitter a touching fanfic story showcasing Calvin’s last day on Earth. While that sounds macabre (which Calvin might actually be in favor of) it may make your eyes water. (Although I always saw Spaceman Spiff as a comic more than a novel series. It could just be me.) Do you know what I love most about this later years of Calvin stories? When he passes Hobbes to his child or grandchild, and passing the magic along with it.
