Scooby-Doo Team-Up #5

WRITER: Sholly Fisch

Wonder Woman can handle real mythological monsters. It’s the fake ones confusing her, so she calls Batman, who recommends the gang since two of them are women. (Aphrodite’s Law states that no man may set foot on Paradise Island.) Shaggy and Fred either have to sit in the Invisible Jet or ride Kanga to stay true to the law, but are they playing into the villain’s hands?

What they got right: THIS IS WONDER WOMAN! Not the New 52 version. This right here! (Go re-read the Morning Article Link.) She’s kind, she smiles, she learns to fight for training and to be a hero, not to be lady Kratos. Plus she lives on Paradise Island, they ride Kangas, the Amazons have issues with men but aren’t out to rape and murder them for population growth. This is the Wonder Woman we haven’t seen since the Post-COIE reboot! They even name drop Etta Candy…the original Etta Candy! Also we finally have an issue of this comic without Batman, even if he does get mentioned, or the rest of his cast.

What they got wrong: The gang doesn’t really solve the mystery and nothing led to the baddie in this story. This wasn’t a mystery. It was just the gang on Paradise Island.

Recommendation: Fans of the classic Wonder Woman of the pre-Crisis, Superfriends/Linda Carter era and miss her post-Crisis and especially in the New 52 should get this comic. Maybe we’ll get this Wonder Woman back someday. (Maybe in the recently announced Sensational Comics? Please?)
