Star Mage #5
IDW (August, 2014)
WRITER: JC De La Torre ARTIST: Franco Cespedes ASSISTANT EDITOR: Cori Zaragoza EDITOR: Tom Waltz
Darien’s new teacher is not only very tough (like creating a monster to kill him so he can tap his potential faster) but tells him some bad things about his father and the people he’s being roped into fighting for. However, his friends sneak in to see him just as Orasmas draws him to the Planet Of Sorrows, leading the king to make a big move of his own and putting his friends in jeopardy.
What they got right: I’m glad we aren’t losing Darien’s new friends. They’re a good addition and they make a good team. I hope we get to learn more about them in the next storyline. (Also, I hope there’s a next storyline. De La Torre’s comments in the not-letters section has me concerned.)
What they got wrong: Too many secrets, so now we don’t know if anyone are the “good guys”, and what about that kid and dog from the last issue?
Recommendation: The author hopes for continued support for the comic and I agree. It’s still a great comic, mixing science and magic very well. Give this comic a proper look.
