Street Sharks #3
FINAL ISSUE
Archie (March, 1996)
“Sharkstorm” STORY: Martha Moran ADAPTATION: Evan Skolnick PENCILER: Nelson Ortega INKER: Jay Orliveras COLORIST: Kyle Hunter LETTERER: Luke Merlin EDITOR: Fred Mendez
Paradigm/Pirahnoid tries to destroy the Sharks in his Ultra Collider, hoping to reconstitute them in his vision. However, with Bends’ help, the Sharks escape. As the negative press mounds when Paradigm sends his “Seaviants” to capture a missile and frame the Sharks. The mad doctor wants to use a stronger formula that can be inhaled instead of needing injection, but the Sharks foil his plan and recover their dad’s watch. However, Pirahnoid may return.
What they got right: It’s a satisfying ending. While Archie produced a second miniseries of non-adapted stories (which we’ll start reviewing tomorrow), it could have ended here, although that’s because this is how the episode ended.
What they got wrong: More scenes removed covering more of the Sharks’ heroic deed and “Guy In The Sky” broadcasting the proof to the SWAT team that the sharks were framed (well, actually he thought there were more collaborators) and this causes Paradigm to show his “Pirahnoid” self.
Recommendation: If the second mini proves to be good enough to save I’ll keep these three issues as the origin story. Otherwise I can’t really recommend these comics except for nostalgia on someone’s part.
