Well, three of their games, anyway. SF Debris, the brainchild of Charles Sonnenberg, who writes and performs the review videos, recently accepted membership into the ranks of Channel Awesome. I still don’t have permission to post videos here at the spotlight (and that’s a deal in the reviewing community–long story) so these are links. For his review of Bioware’s Mass Effect 2, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, and Dragon Age: Orgins Sonneberg went all out in his breakdown of these epic interactive stories. The videos for each are the usual just under a half-hour pieces, but they are multiple parts, 10 parts each. That means each review is practically a movie by Peter Jackson.
Extra Credits often talks about video games as a storytelling medium but SF Debris’s thorough examination of these stories prove why Bioware is a leader in this action. I like how Sonnenberg takes these stories with all the respect he would a television show or movie. Video games don’t have to be either. They have the opportunity to tell a story in a way other media formats cannot but they are no less valid than other media. If you have the time (he has a full playlist at the top of each page followed by the individual videos if you want to come back later) give these videos a watch and see how video games can tell an epic tale of spaceships and dragons. (Which sadly I have yet to see together. Somebody get to work on that. Aliens visiting a fantasy world and having an adventure, exploring the differences and similarities between science and magic. I’ve just handed someone lots of money.)
