Dynomutt #4

It’s as silly as you think.

Dynomutt #4

Marvel (May, 1978)

WRITER: Mark Evanier
ARTIST: Paul Norris
COLORIST: Carl Gafford

The credits were in the first story so I’m only guessing it’s for both.

“Top Banana” is guy whose head looks like a banana (maybe he need a new hairstyle) who decides to turn to crime because everyone laughs at him. Meanwhile, Blue Falcon is trying to break up the fledgling criminal organization Top Banana is trying to join. (A team including Mr. Mastermind from yesterday’s review.) BF and Dog Wonder are able to trick him into leading them right to the villains’ hideout. It’s…okay, but nothing spectacular. The comic villains don’t appear to be in the league of the television villains.

“The Martian Menace” has Dynomutt trying to catch Bubble Boy, who might almost match the TV villains if not for his corny dialog. (And some crook accused Blue Falcon of being corny in the first story.) Dog Wonder’s efforts are hampered by an old farmer outside the city where the chase takes place, because he saw a sci-fi movie and is worried about Martians. The joke being the guys he hangs out with are Martians, which Dynomutt finds out about after taking down Bubble Boy and going back for his weapon.

These…are not that great, or at least not as good as the television show. If you thought dumbing down a kids show into the adaptation was a stupid thing comic did with their tie-in comics in the past decade, they’ve got nothing on this comic. It’s not really worth going after, and I’m only keeping it for the curiosity.
