Godzilla #4
Dark Horse (September, 1995)
“Godzilla Vs. Bagorah” WRITER: Kevin Maguire PENCILER: Brandon McKinney INKER: Scott Reed COLORIST: Albert Deschesne COVER ART: Arthur Adams LETTERER: Pat Owsley EDITOR: Richard Vincent Conte DESIGN: Mark Cox
Bagorah still wants to eat Godzilla, and although he’s gotten the antidote he’s still too weak to fire his nuclear breath. Still, it’s enough of a fight that Bagorah tries to chase some planes, but metal doesn’t taste as good as meat. Godzilla follows the space bat to Vancouver and Bagorah tries to grab his meal again. Except now Godzilla has recovered and Bagorah’s the one getting cooked. Back with the humans, the Cybersaur explodes and another one of the pilots is killed. Cameron has Noriko arrested but in her private cell, it appears he shot her, blaming it on her committing suicide, but not before Cameron got all of her notes about Godzilla and the toxin.
What they got right: An interesting mystery is set up with Cameron and his methods. (Wait until you see his motives.) The Godzilla/Bagorah fight would be my Friday Night Fight entry this week if not for the tribute week.
What they got wrong: I’m kind of sorry Noriko was killed but I don’t know what she’d actually do with G-Force in time to come. Still, I would have liked to have seen them try.
Recommendation: This is still my favorite of the Godzilla comic runs. If you’re a Godzilla fan you should be tracking these down already.
