Nowadays it seems like every effect requires some high-priced computer effects studio. I can see the case for effects that are too expensive to do practically, or requires violating the laws of physics (or just the law) but not every practical effect is high-priced. Cracked‘s “photoplasty” contestants found 36 examples of cheaply done, but highly effective, special effects techniques.
